Framing

Should you wish to order one or more of the paintings or drawings exhibited on this site, it will be supplied unframed, as indicated on the ordering page. This is partly to keep the postage costs to a minimum, partly to avoid the possibility of breakage in transit, but also to permit you the freedom of whatever framing options you wish.

However, the artist would like to suggest the following mounting and displaying options which he has found over many years to provide the optimal display environment for his work. The picture below shows the final result of this process.

Example of framing
  1. The first step is to adhere the painting/drawing to a backing board. Carefully apply an adhesive appropriate to the material of the painting and to the backing board to the surface of the board. Then position the artwork centrally on this board.
  2. Next, you will need to source an appropriate sized window mount to frame the artwork appropriately. A white or light cream colour is preferable. If you are fortunate you may be able to source a pre-cut window mount of an appropriate size; however it is likely that you will either have to purchase a piece of cardboard and cut your own mount (art shops sell both the appropriate cardboard and the necessary chamfered knives and rulers for this purpose) or order custom-sized mounts from a supplier. If you are based in the UK, the webmaster strongly recommends e-Frame, who have supplied her with custom-cut mounts for her photographic exhibitions.
  3. The final step is to place the mount and artwork in an appropriate frame. The artist would recommend black as setting off the light-coloured mount and the bright colours of his paintings to their best advantage. Again, if you are lucky you may be able to purchase a pre-fabricated frame of appropriate dimensions; if this is not possible, the company mentioned above e-Frame, have again provided excellent service in manufacturing custom-manufactured frames.
